“Tommy, lay your G.I. Joe flat on the counter like this- that’s a straight angle; now sitting up straight like this- 90 degrees or a right angle; bent forward- acute; and leaned back- that’s an obtuse angle.”
“Like my daddy in his recliner chair- he’s obtuse! What’s so funny, Liz?”
“Marlie, I bet Tommy would rather play outside, maybe that’s enough math for today.”
“Yeah, Marlie, let’s go back to the dirt pile, besides my daddy says girls aren’t that good at math.”
“Go, before I get an acute headache.”
Here once again are Marlie and her Destiny Doll, recurring characters in Six Sentence Stories and 99 word flashes for Carrot Ranch. This week Denise gives us the word “angle” to use as we wish as long as it’s presented in six sentences exactly. Go to GirlieOnTheEdge for the link up.
I wish I would have taken advantage of my G.I Joe’s when I was growing up. I might have even gotten much better grades in math

Right? And Marlie, last I checked, is only six or seven. She’s hard to keep up with.

That’s really nice though

I always sucked at math. English was my best subject 🙂

Same! But think about how much of it is vocabulary and syntax. Study math as a language and you might feel better about the subject. Anyway as long as we can count to six it” all add up.

Thank you. It’s actually just a six sentence piece of an intro to a longer Marlie story; it doesn’t stand so well on its own but I’ll take it. I’m always glad to have this character show up.

A longer Marlie story? Already published? Directions to story, please 😀
If not out yet, let me know 🙂

Oh, just a story, unpublished. For now.

Marlie is quite precocious, yes?! Cute story but I sit embarrassed to say I had forgotten about acute and obtuse angles, lol. Math was never my favorite subject (except in 9th and 10th grade!) and geometry was worst of all!
“Study math as a language”. I’d never heard that before. Very interesting.

What’s the story of those grades and math?

His father needs educating. Girls are better at maths than boys. 🙂

Yeah, the father may be too far gone but I think Liz, Marlie’s mother, is in hopes that neighbor kid Tommy might benefit from exposure to Marlie and her family.

Very clever and creative. I’m not good at math either but don’t tell dad !!

I thought about applying a little math to my Six, but then I remembered that wasn’t my best subject. You did it justice in your SSS and added some humor too.

You seem to have covered all the angles in this entertaining story.

Math as a language is an interesting, um, ANGLE! Nicely done. And I agree with you on that.
Marlie is delightful and I love how she takes the real world and uses it to illustrate the math concepts. Well done.

Clever! Although I don’t think Tommy’s very cute, I understand why he would give someone an acute headache. 🙂
