Poet sighs. Words on the paper

Puts the pen down. Rest. Later revise.

Artist smiles. Reshapes the paper

Curls it ‘round pen. Creative child.

Poet ponders. Wants words to speak

Of place; history, light. Mind wanders.

Artist sees. Gives shape to shadows

Places light; shifting sands. Plays with these.

Poet gasps. Words in strips, paper bricks

Solid form; like to land. Arrived at last.

Artistry. Wording, winding

Another way to see.

My friend Bonnie has posted another of her quilling pieces. I am impressed with her capturing of the light in this one. You get a hint of sunlight glinting off the water behind the lighthouse, a promise that the gray fog and cloud are not forever.

I used Bonnie’s art to prompt me to take part in Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt. This week the word count is 71 and the word is “sculpture”. While I did not actually use the word in my poem, I attempt to describe an unfinished poem becoming a sculpture such as Bonnie’s.

To see and comment on more of Bonnie’s work go HERE. Perhaps one of her pieces will prompt you to write as well.
