What’s New?
Old friend! How long’s it been?
…. Not much. You?
Getting old is all that’s new.
Hair’s gone gray; added pounds, inclined to stay.
Isn’t it strange, our focus on what’s changed?
We might ask, what still holds True?
What remains for us to Do?
The prompt for Quadrille #71 at dVerse Poets’ Pub is: “The changing of the guards. Spare change. Positive change. Change your clothes. Change your attitude. Change your life. Changed. Changeability. Changing. You could even go a little creepy on us, and write about a changeling. Whatever you write, just be sure it’s 44 words, and includes some alteration of the word change.” Thank you De Jackson for pouring.
This must be a time of year for reflection. This is the second poem this morning I have read on this theme. Very poignant.

I think it would have turned out differently had I more than 44 words, or had I not started rhyming.
Thanks for the visit.

Getting old is all that’s new – the stark reality of life!
We are changing every day, we are becoming old every day!
You have brought that out so effortlessly through your poem.

Getting older has been effortless so far, though a lot of work.
Thanks for coming by.

Interesting reflection. Our bodies grow old. Hopefully, our minds don’t do the same. I’m sure the young ones see it though.
Your reflection is an interesting response to the prompt. Well done.

Thanks. I’ve not done too much with dVerse lately so I took whatever came. This one’s raw, but that’s okay, isn’t it?

Nice last line and this one: “Getting old is all that’s new.”

Thanks, and thanks for coming by.
Yeah. Why do the aches and pains and other indignities come as such a surprise?

Oh, how I love this:
“We might ask, what still holds True?”
YES. What can we hold onto in life? What stays, no matter what else fades. I LOVE this.

Wow, thanks. I was unsure about this one. Played with a weird rhyme pattern. But, yeah, I was sure about that line; when we find ourselves older and maybe even with some same good friends, isn’t what has stayed the same more interesting than what hasn’t?
Thanks for the prompt and the comments.

That is a good questions and perspective. I would like to believe that what remains inside, the friendship and love, are the same.

I have always reflected that growing old is at least better than the alternative… time is running it seams
